The Radford Army Ammunition Plant's current corporate operator is planning job cuts across its company.
According to a spokesman for ATK, 200 jobs will be cut across multiple plants. The company plans to realign itself into three business segments, with a focus on armament and missile products.
The spokesman said decision about how many jobs will be cut at each of its plants. ATK's fiscal year ends in March, and final decisions about the job cuts should be made by then.
ATK lost the competition for a new ten-year bid to operate the Radford Arsenal to the American subsidiary of BAE Systems in May of 2011. ATK also lost an appeal of that decision, which was released last month.
The transition from ATK to BAE Systems Support Solutions is expected to take place later this year.
The Radford Arsenal is the only maker in the U.S. of a key propellant for military munition. The facility is owned by the federal government.
