The Mooresville area and some of its race drivers' wives will be featured later this month in a new cable TV series.
The TLC channel will premiere a new reality series called "NASCAR Wives" on Jan. 24, following the Miss America Pageant, according to the Hollywood Reporter. A full season of the show is slated to appear sometime in the spring.
Area residents Lindy Hornaday, wife of race driver Ron Hornaday and owner of Mooresville's Miss Estelle's Place antique store; Kelley Earnhardt, sister of Dale Earnhardt Jr.; and Shana Mayfield, wife of Jeremy Mayfield, are all expected to appear.
Kim Saragoni, co-owner of Four Corners Framing and Gallery, said Thursday the TLC film crew was in town "with all of their booms and lights" for at least two days, following Hornaday as she volunteered to decorate Christmas trees in John Franklin Moore Memorial Garden and following Mayfield for a lunch at Soiree restaurant.
"They shadowed each of the wives for an entire day," said Saragoni.
The crew, said Saragoni, even stopped into Four Corners for some filming while they were in town.
Allison Spencer, who owns Four Corners with Saragoni, said the show, however, isn't the only thing downtown should be proud of lately. The public turnout for downtown's recent "Holidays on Broad & Main" events was also spectacular, she said.
The event, which ran for four weeks throughout December, featured 20 Christmas trees in Moore Park, visits from Santa, hot chocolate at the Charles Mack Citizen Center, movies, horse-drawn wagon rides, a holiday party and a window display by 30 area merchants.
At a Wednesday meeting of the Mooresville Downtown Commission, Spencer called the event "a huge success. I'm really thrilled at the turnout."
Although Spencer said Thursday that planning took many hours to complete, it was worth it: She estimated that nearly 2,000 residents and entertainers made the trek to downtown Mooresville during the month of December to participate in "Holidays on Broad & Main," and yet the project came in under budget for the MDC.
The planning for this year's event, said Spencer, will certainly pay off in future years.
"It just goes to show that next year will be bigger, better and (another) success," she said.
"Holidays on Broad & Main" was planned and organized by volunteers of the Mooresville Downtown Commission and funded by the Mooresville Downtown Commission and the BB&T Mooresville main office and the Tribune.
