U2 to play at UVA's Scott Stadium

Scott Stadium can accommodate about 61,000 for sporting events, but given the magnitude of U2’s rotating stage, capacity will be scaled back from that figure

The Rolling Stones and Dave Matthews Band have been there – and now U2 will truck a massive, in-the-round stage into University of Virginia’s Scott Stadium this fall.

The band’s 360° Tour will make its only Virginia stop in Charlottesville at 7 p.m. Oct. 1 with Muse opening the night.

Tickets, on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, are $32, $57, $97 and $252 (plus service charges). Considering this is the first time U2 has enlisted a corporate sponsor, the band insists that 10 percent of every venue will offer tickets at the $32 level and general admission field tickets for $57.

Scott Stadium can accommodate about 61,000 for sporting events, but given the magnitude of U2’s rotating stage (which can be viewed at http://360.u2.com), capacity will be scaled back from that figure.

The U2 360° Tour is its first U.S. stadium tour since 1997’s mammoth PopMart outing and marks the band’s return to the stage after the 2005/2006 Vertigo road trip.

This 360° Tour follows the release of U2’s 12th studio album, “No Line on the Horizon,” and will launch June 30 in Barcelona.

Tickets for the Charlottesville show can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, http://www.ticketmaster.com, by calling (800) 745-3000 or at the Scott Stadium West Gate Ticket Booth only from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday and on the day of the show.
