GILES CO. - A new hospital in Giles County held a dedication ceremony earlier today.
The Carilion Giles Community Hospital is located behind the Pearisburg Wal-Mart.
While a band played cheerful music, people in the community gathered to learn more about the state-of-the-art facility. Some of its services will include digital mammography, a rapid diagnostic center, and physical therapy.
"This is hospital is just a great reminder of the tangible investment for Carilion Clinic not only in Giles County but throughout southwestern Virginia, and our mission is to provide quality care for everybody," said James Hartley with the Carilion Clinic Board.
Workers also unveiled a mural inside showcasing popular landmarks in the area.
"I knew we wanted to reflect the whole county, try to get the whole county landscape involved in the mural, so I used things from throughout the county. I've got the New River three times, Cascades, Mountain Lake, and Pembroke," said the artist, Robert Tuckwiller.
The hospital is set to open later this month.

GILES CO. - Carilion Clinic dedicated the new Giles Community Hospital in Pearisburg Tuesday morning.
The hospital is scheduled to open later this month.
One of the items that patients and visitors will see in the new hospital, is an 85 foot tall mural painted by Artist, Robert Tuckwiller of Newport. Carilion describes it as one of the tallest hand-painted murals in Virginia.
