It looks like Virginia's 6th Congressional District Democrats have their nominee to face-off with long time Republican Congressman Bob Goodlatte.
Drew Richardson withdrew from the race today (Thursday), leaving Sam Rasoul as the only Democratic contender for the party's nomination.
In a news release, Richardson cited the support Rasoul has received from party leaders as his decision to drop out.
Democrats will need to caucus later this month to make the nomination official.
Rasoul faces a huge uphill battle against Goodlatte. The Republican from Roanoke is in his 8th term as Congressman for the 6th district, which includes Roanoke and Lynchburg. In 2006, Goodlatte won re-election by taking more than 75% of the votes cast. In that election, the Democratic Party chose not to nominate a challenger, and Goodlatte faced off against two independents.
