UPDATE: Sunday 2:15 p.m.
State Police say Branscome was arrested Sunday morning after a brief standoff at a hotel in New Boston, TX.
The U.S. Marshal's Service SWAT Team tracked Branscome down in the New Boston area. When the team confronted him at the hotel, Branscome refused to cooperate at first. Police say he surrendered without incident a short time later. He was arrested at 12:40 a.m. (central time). He is being held at the Bowie County, TX jail pending extradition.
State Police say a 1999 Chevrolet van was stolen from a church in Statesville, NC on Wednesday, April 2nd. Police in Texas found this van in the hotel parking lot.
New Boston is in northeast Texas, near the city of Texarkana, right near the border of Arkansas and Texas.
State Police Superintendent Col. Flaherty says "this is the safe resolution that we were hoping for." "By increasing police presence in the Floyd County area, we were able to force Branscome out into the open and away from the support network that enabled him to elude investigators for the past week.”
Branscome faces a number of charges in Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina, including at least four auto thefts and charges related to the shooting of a State Trooper.
