Less than half an hour after an armed robbery in Brookneal, the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office had four suspects in custody, according to Campbell County Sheriff’s Capt. L.T. Guthrie.

Delroy Baker, 24, of Spout Spring, Eric Elam, 27, of Appomattox, Tyree Watts, 24, of Pamplin and Desmond Brown, 19, of Appomattox, were all arrested and charged with armed robbery.

Baker, Elam and Watts were also charged with use of a firearm in commission of a felony.

Guthrie said emergency dispatchers received a call at 12:54 a.m. from three victims at the Southern Pride Car Wash on Lusardi Drive in Brookneal.

The victims said they had been robbed at gunpoint by subjects wearing masks. Along with money, the robbers took personal items from the victims’ vehicle, and drove off.

The victims were able to give sheriff’s deputies a partial license plate number for the suspected vehicle, a black Dodge four-door sedan, which Guthrie said was being rented.

At 1:17 a.m., a deputy spotted the vehicle in the Gladys area, near the intersection of Mollies Creek Road and Bear Creek Road.

None of the stolen items were visible when the deputy approached the vehicle from the front. However, Guthrie said the deputy noticed some of the stolen goods had been discarded behind the car.
