Deadly Crash in Riner

A woman and a child are recovering today after a crash killed man in Riner Tuesday evening just before 8:00 on Piney Woods Road.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer flipped over and was found on its top. When emergency crews arrived, a male passenger, 35, was found dead in the front seat. The woman driver, 37, was pinned inside the SUV and later airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released. A one-year-old child was also inside the SUV, secured in a child safety seat. The child was brought to New River Valley Medical Center, but was later released.

The names of those involved are not being released at this time. The Sheriff's Office says the cause of the crash is still under investigation. Charges are pending in connection with the accident.
