Add another to the list of tornadoes that hit Virginia on Monday, for a total of eight.

The National Weather Service, which previously considered damage on the Middle Peninsula to be from one tornado, said today that separate twisters hit Gloucester and Mathews counties.

The tornadoes produced 40-mph-to-72-mph winds -- and probably on the low end of that range, said Weather Service meteorologist Chris Wamsley.

The tornadoes knocked down several trees, the Weather Service said.

In addition, the service said the tornado that devastated Suffolk, after declining in strength, damaged a building and several cars and snapped off trees at the Norfolk Naval Base.

Tornadoes also hit Colonial Heights and Halifax, Isle of Wight, Surry and Brunswick counties.

The twister injured scores of people, mainly in Suffolk, but there were no reports of deaths.
