A former band director from our area finds himself in trouble with the law tonight and out of a job.
34-year-old John Maddy was the band director at Narrows High School in Giles County.
Today (Tuesday, August 12th), he was arrested, and faces multiple charges in connection with having sex with one of his students.
Maddy had nothing to say as police escorted him to the New River Valley Regional jail.
Investigators say the former band director at Narrows High School had a sexual relationship with one of his female students between Valentines day and August 1st.
During that time, the student celebrated her 17th birthday, and deputies say the father of two gave her a card that said "I love you."
One of Maddy's former students says it's hard to believe.
Bayliegh Bowles, an eighth grader at Narrows High School told us, "He was a nice teacher. He was nice when we had him at class and stuff, and it was just weird."
The school district did not agree to an on-camera interview, saying this case is a personnel matter. But the assistant superintendent tells WSLS that Maddy is no longer employed by the school district.
Maddy faces 13 felony and five misdemeanor charges. They range from crimes against nature, sodomy, to taking indecent liberties with a child.
The sheriff's office says they worked long hours on this case. Giles County Sheriff W. Morgan Millirons, says, "They're (investigators) still working on it, and they'll continue to work on it to make sure that everything goes the way they want it to. No rock will go unturned."
Maddy is being held without bond and is expected in court later this week.
The school district tells us Maddy has not been replaced, but that band practice will continue as scheduled this week.
This is the second time in three years that a music teacher from Narrows High School has faced sex charges involving a student. In the previous case, the music director was also accused of starting a relationship on Valentine's day. He was later found *not* guilty.
