Entrepreneur looks to take idea from farm to Richmond

A local entreprenuer plans to take his idea from the farm to the commonwealth's capital.

Red Birch Energy's Dean Price believes a nudge from state lawmakers, in the form of incentives to farmers, could help biodiesel in Virginia get going.

Biodiesel is made from canola plants.

Price built a biodiesel plant in Henry County and sells B-20 biodiesel (20 percent biodiesel) at his Red Birch convenience store.

Price showed off the plant to farmers, local business owners, and others Friday.

Delegate Ward Armstrong attended.

Price said the commonwealth's agricultural commissioner also toured the plant.

Price said he is scheduled to speak to Governor Kaine's Coal and Energy Commission on October 1st.

He hopes more incentives would lead to more farmers growing canola, which could lead to more biodiesel fuel.
