There's an alternative plan to deal with Roanoke's homeless concerns.
In a media blitz Friday morning that included eight testimonials, the Rescue Mission, and several other groups, responded to some city leaders they said made comments "those who serve the homeless are undermining the community."
More than a month ago, Roanoke city leaders unveiled their "Ten Year Plan" to end homelessness in the city.
City leaders findings included what some maintain is a higher amount of "out of town" homeless who come to Roanoke for the services offered by several groups, including the Rescue Mission.
Rescue Mission leader Joy Sylvester-Johnson said some city leaders are over-estimating the amount of so called "out of town" homeless.
Sylvester-Johnson made several recommendations in a report released at the media conference, including automated public toilets for homeless to use.
