Montgomery County deputies say they're investigating the death of an infant.
The sheriff's office says emergency crews were called to a home for a baby that wasn't breathing, around 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The 14-month-old boy died at Roanoke Memorial Hospital Saturday night.
Officers charged 28-year-old William Shelton with felony child abuse. He is being held at the Montgomery County Regional Jail without bond.
More charges could be coming.
A medical examiner will determine the cause of the child's death.
