The U.S. Army public affairs office in Fort Campbell, Kentucky released additional information about fallen soldier Sgt. Tracy Birkman.

Birkman has ties to Craig County and the New Castle area.

The Department of Defense reported Sunday she died of "non-combat related injuries in Iraq."

In an e-mail Monday, Fort Campbell public affairs officer Sgt. Mark Swart wrote Birkman is survived by three sons, Bradley Griffith, Joshua Birkman, and Ryan Birkman.

Sgt. Swart wrote Birkman received several medals and commendations during her 20 year Army career including the Army Commendation Medal.

She arrived at Fort Campbell in June 2006.

While a memorial service is planned in Iraq, no service information has been announced for back home in the states.

When reached on the phone Monday, Birkman's father, Gerry Griffith, declined to comment.
