Local schools receive money

Governor Tim Kaine announces he's giving more than one million dollars in safe routes to school funding to promote students biking and walking to school.

Governor Tim Kaine announces he's giving more than one million dollars in safe routes to school funding to promote students biking and walking to school.

The money will go to non-profit groups, local governments, and 13 school systems across the Commonwealth.

In fact, some local school districts will be affected by the program.

This includes Bedford County, Roanoke County and Salem City public schools.

The programs include crossing guard training, outreach, participation encouragement and safety education.

It benefits students in grades K-8th.
