Virginia carries out its 100th execution.
Robert Yarbrough was pronounced dead just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the Greenville Correctional Center in Jarratt.
He was sentenced to death for the 1997 murder of a store owner during a robbery.
The U.S Supreme Court and Governor Tim Kaine refused to block the execution.
A statement released by Virginia's Attorney General, Bob McDonnell say, "tonight justice has been served."
Virginia ranks second to Texas in the number of executions since capital punishment was reinstated in 1976.
