A North Carolina man was electrocuted in Brookneal yesterday while repairing a store sign, authorities said.

Richard Goad, 49, of Dobson, N.C., was working on the electrical wiring of a sign at Brookneal’s Jiffy Store when he was shocked, Campbell County Inv. Tony Bates said.

He was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Virginia Department of Labor is investigating.

Goad, an employee of Mt. Airy, N.C.-based Interstate Sign Co. Inc., had no known personal ties to the Lynchburg area, Bates said.
