Richard "Dicky" Palmer's father, Fred, says: "He was a wonderful person, a very caring person."
"Dicky" Palmer is still very much alive in the hearts of those who loved him.
Fred says, "I miss him so much and of course there's not an hour in the day i don't think about him."
Dicky was helping his father, Fred, install this electrical box, when the men realized they needed screws to get the job done.
So Dicky left his parents Floyd County house to get the screws. A few moments later he arrived at his own home where police say he was ambushed and then his body loaded into his truck.
Later that day, the truck was discovered parked in Roanoke, Dicky and his dog, Rufus, were both dead inside.
That was five years ago this spring, and time hasn't eased the palmer's pain.
Despite that, Fred has forgiven his son's murderer.
Investigators are now closer to solving the case and getting justice for "Dicky."
That can't come soon enough for Dicky's aging parents.
Betty Palmer,Dicky's Mom, says "We're waiting, 5 years is a long time to wait."
Fred says he knows solving the case won't bring back his son -- but it will bring closure.
Right now -- there are just too many unanswered questions.
Fred says he would ask his son's killer why he took such a precious life.
Betty makes a plea to the public, "Help us, if you know something come forward and tell us."
Dicky's sister, Sandra Moye says Dicky told her never to give up. And that's why she's not giving up that this case will soon be solved.
