A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. for Appomattox, Campbell, Carroll, Charlotte, Floyd, Franklin, Halifax, Henry, Patrick, and Pittsylvania Counties as well as the cities of Danville, Galax and Martinsville.
Thunderstorms along and ahead of a cold front could produce wind gusts to 60 mph and large hail.
