A look inside the Taubman Museum of Art

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Whether you've passed by on 581 or work in downtown Roanoke everyday, we've all watched it go up; going from a parking lot, to a steal structure, to what sits here today.

The Taubman Museum of Art is not only the site for WSLS’s senate debate tomorrow night between Jim Gilmore and Mark Warner, but so much more.

Although the museum is the site of Friday’s debate, the building is not set to open to the public until Nov. 8.

But tonight, ten on your side photojournalist Jeff Perzan gives us a look inside.

There are a few interesting facts about the museum.

It’s 81-thousand square feet and its structual frame is made with one-thousand tons of steel.

The highest point of the museum is its atrium which rises 80 feet into the air.

All you hokies might be interested to know that this building is one of a very few outside of Virginia Tech to use hokie stone from the school's quarry.
