Health inspectors will start final examinations of each stall at the Roanoke City Market building's food court Friday morning.

The health department believes it'll take several hours to inspect all ten food vendors.

The city doesn't expect to make any type of formal announcement on the outcome until 6:00 p.m. Friday.

The hope among vendors is to pass inspection and reopen for lunch Saturday, which is also the popular yearly festival "Oktoberfest" downtown.

City staff also agreed to discount each vendors' rent for the month of October, since the market building has been closed for two weeks.

There's no word yet on the total expense of the clean-up and renovations at the building, a lot of which will be billed to the vendors.

Roanoke City spokeswoman Melinda Mayo says the Health Department plans to inspect the City Market Building again on Friday, and the City hopes to be able to re-open it on Saturday morning.

Also, the city will help the vendors by pro-rating their rent.
