Renovations are underway at "The Riverwalk At Salem."
You know it best as the Salem Ridge Apartments, or maybe even Willow River Apartments.
WSLS 10 On Your Side was first to tell you last Thursday (October 2nd) that the apartments are now under new ownership.
The buyers, Sage Residential, Langley Properties and Northstar Properties says it wants to make some postive changes.
Missy Millner, the president of The Riverwalk at Salem, says, "So what we're looking forward to is giving it a facelift. Ee want to concentrate on how we can make this one of the best communities in Salem."
Sweep...Mow...and Saw...
It's all part of a plan to blow away residents with much needed renovations to the newly named "The Riverwalk at Salem".
About 150 local contractors are installing new carpeting, windows, and vinyl siding.
Workers only have till mid-December to complete dozens of improvement projects.
To ensure they finish in the short amount of time -- some of them have even moved into the apartments they're working on...
"So we're very excited that all of these improvements are happening very quickly as you can see", says Millner.
Workers are calling themselves the "Extreme Team"...
Afterall, they're repairing apartments that have seen extreme conditions...the complex was flooded by the remnants of Hurricane Jeanne.
Jessica Flores says four years later -- and problems from the flood still linger.
She says she's looking forward to seeing the improvements.
"I'll be glad to see when it's done", Flores says.
Landscaping is also part of the improvement plans...
The new owners plan to enhance this nature trial on its property. And, then they want it to connect to Salem City Park. And, from there become part of the 'Roanoke River Greenway Project' to get that part of the project done the new owners will work with the city of Salem.
Millner says, "We would be the only commercial property that would be connected to the greenway."
Projects that will allow people who live here to enjoy the inside of their apartments...as well as the outdoors.

They say they are in the beginning stages of planning the project.
