Suspicions surround Glasgow’s sole police officer, Sergeant Damon Propst, and his use of the town's gas tab.
Propst was videotaped last week filling up a can at CC's Stop & Go and charging it to Glasgow.
Propst says the gas was for his personal car, because he uses it for surveillance.
If that's true it remains unknown.
“Right now our procedures really don't require him to write down that he's doing surveillance,” said Ryan Spitzer, Glasgow Town Manager.
The gas station owner claims Propst has filled up that can 3 or 4 times a week for the past several months, but the town has no paper trail of mileage or money.
“We just know [gas] went into the cans,” said Spitzer.
Sgt. Propst declined an on camera interview, but tells us he had permission from the previous town manager to use his personal car for work and that entitles him to gas paid by the town.
Spitzer raised the issue before town council at a meeting Tuesday night. In a 4 to 2 vote they decided to keep Sgt. Propst on board. However, Spitzer says his guns and car were taken away for two days.
Locals have their opinions.
“I just don't think he does his job anyways, but I don't think he should use his personal vehicle,” said Stephanie Smith, who lives in Glasgow.
“I don't think its right and quite personally I’ve never heard of it, we don't know if he's telling the truth or if he's lying I’ve never heard of it,” Don Spicer said, another Glasgow resident.
The Town Manager wouldn't say if the sergeant has to pay any of the money back.
Next Tuesday, town council will have another meeting where many are expected to weigh in on the issue.
