Police confirm a Rocky Mount officer died in a crash at a troublespot on Route 220 early Saturday.

34-year-old Jason Maxey died just before 2:00 a.m., as he drove on Southbound Route 220, just before the Elm Avenue exit in Roanoke.

Roanoke Police say two cars collided. Maxey was driving one of the cars.

We are still waiting to hear from police what caused the accident.
