The number of people looking to receive help for the holidays from the Salvation Army is going up.
The organization is taking in more than 1-hundred applications on each sign-up day for its Angel Tree program.
In years past, it received an average of 100 people a day.
The Angel Tree program provides new clothing and toys for children for Christmas.
Employees blame the bad economy...saying the majority of their clients can't wait until Christmas for the help they need.
Tabitha Perry, of The Salvation Army, says, "They're needing assistance right now because the need is great a lot of them can't find jobs."
Early Christmas sign-up days are on Sundays (2-4 p.m.) and Mondays (9-11 a.m.) in October.
Angel Tree applicants must have:
1. Identification (Picture, DMV)
2. Social security cards for everyone in household
3. Children's birth certificates
4. Proof of Expenses (Rent, etc.)
5. Ages known for children 0-14
6. Letter explaining why you need help
Those 55 and older and disabled must provide the same information.
