BLAIRS - Authorities have arrested one man in a shooting Monday night that injured three people.
Two victims with gunshot wounds were taken to Danville Regional Medical Center following the shooting at about 6 p.m. near U.S. 29 in Blairs, authorities said.
The victims were in the backseat of a car traveling south on the highway when shots rang out, leaving bullet holes in the passenger-side door, rear panel and trunk, as well as flattening a tire, Lt. Boyd Arnold III of the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office said Monday night.
A third victim refused to be taken to the hospital for treatment, though he had a graze on his head caused by a bullet or broken glass, according to Angela McKinney of the Blairs Volunteer Fire Department.
Patrick Antonio Davis, 22, of Blairs Circle in Blairs, was arrested Monday night and charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Arnold said.
"He is being held at Pittsylvania County Jail without bond," the lieutenant said.
The shooting actually took place on Blairs Circle, Arnold said, but the car did not come to a stop until it reached the 4700 block of U.S. 29 due to a flat tire caused by a bullet, Arnold said.
He said one victim had been shot in the right calf and the left buttock, and will be treated and released.
The other victim, Arnold said, was shot in the right shoulder.
"The bullet went through his lung," he said after speaking to both victims at the hospital. "He (the victim) told me doctors said he would require surgery."
Walter Chadwick said he, his family and several other neighbors witnessed parts of the incident.
"Somebody down the street got into some kind of a war," Chadwick said. "We heard it and went to look out the window to see what happened."
Chadwick said he saw one of the men in the car jump out and wave at gun at cars passing by.
"We all saw him get out of the car with a weapon." Chadwick said. "He pointed the gun at us while we were looking out the window."
Arnold said he couldn't verify Chadwick's allegations, and that the investigation is ongoing.
