Virginia Tech helps launch health-products business

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - A new company is using ideas first developed at Virginia Tech to market the healthy benefits of natural products.

BioTherapeutics Inc. will promote better health and well-being through the development of nutraceuticals, or naturally occurring molecules that can be integrated into nutritional products and functional food ingredients.

The company was founded by Josep Bassaganya-Riera, an associate professor at Virginia Tech's Virginia Bioinformatics Institute.

The products developed by the company will be based on technologies licensed by Virginia Tech Intellectual Properties.
