Police evidence photos show the room where the murder happened. Even in the wide shots, the blood spattered walls indicate the brutal nature of the killing that happened there.
It's part of the American Motel --a run-down and now-closed Williamson road business that offered rooms cheap enough that people lived there.
It was home to Marcella Martin and Lonnie Marsh in December 2004, when police say she stabbed him to death.
Martin and Marsh had been dating about five years prior to the killing, but family members told WSLS-10 at the time that the two had broken up just before the stabbing.
No surprise to police who tell me the romance was violent.
“Of course from his injuries and the disarray in the room you could tell she was really angry at him. She had delivered multiple injuries to him, which led to his death,” said Roanoke Detective Lin Manning, who has taken over this cold case.
“According to police accounts and police reports there were violent toward each other. There is a lot of domestic, assault charges and reports for both of them actually,” he added.
Police thought Martin would surface quickly. But she is using fake names, including Marcella Gayle, Gayle martin and Gail Martin.
U.S. Marshals have been brought in to try and find her, since police believe she is outside the Roanoke area. It’s believed she has contacts in North Carolina.
Anyone with information should call the U.S. Marshals at (540) 857-2230.
