Bland Co. pays tribute to Sgt. Phillip Myers

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Bland County community honors a fallen soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice.

30-year-old Air Force Tech Sgt. Phillip Myers was killed in an explosion on April 4th near Afghanistan.

Today, an "honor service" was held for the soldier on the lawn of the Bland County courthouse.

Myers didn't live in bland, but had strong family ties in the area.

Myers' aunt, Nikki, talked about how her nephew loved serving his country, how he had planned to settle down in Bland County after he was finished serving and how her life has forever changed.

"Flag draped coffin will never be the same," said Nikki. "Each time I see one of those I have a new respect for all soldiers and all families of military personnel. Each time one of those soldiers comes home that's a part of Phillip again coming home."

Myers received the Purple Heart, two bronze stars with valor and meritorious service medals for his tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.
