On Tuesday, the United Way of Roanoke Valley board of directors approved a community investment package totaling $2,814,816.00 that will be immediately invested in local programs.
The United Way Impact Fund is invested in 57 local health and human service programs that work in our community everyday of the year to produce measurable results.
Because of the increased needs, United Way of Roanoke Valley board approved an additional $38,538.00 investments for the following programs:
• Blue Ridge Legal Services – Legal Aid - for legal assistance.
• The Salvation Army - Non-Medical Emergency Services - for emergency rent, mortgage, or utility assistance.
• The Salvation Army - Red Shield Lodge - for emergency shelter.
• The Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank - for food.
• YWCA - Residence Program - for emergency shelter and transitional shelter.
The United Way Board also approved an additional $57,000 for the following new iniatives and programs:
• TAP Project Discovery, Kings Project – to engage and motivate students who are at risk of dropping out of school.
• Community-Based Healthcare Coalition – to implement a free dental clinic in March 2010.
