Instead of packing the bus, Martinsville was stuffing the bus Friday.
The first annual "Stuff the Bus" was at the Wal-Mart in Martinsville.
Customers filled bags and baskets with back-to-school goodies.
It was also a fundraiser for the "Food for Kids: School Backpack Program."
In that program, students get free nutritious food if they don't have enough at home.
"We always hear from the teachers who say [the kids] just run up to them and say, 'Look what I have in my backpack.' It may be something as simple as just juice or snacks or whatever it is that they're eating, but they get excited about it."
The event, which is put on by the Community Storehouse of Martinsville and Henry County ends at 9pm Friday.
