A former nursing home employee claims she was fired for letting her boss know about alleged patient abuse.
Melissa Reeves read aloud the termination letter she was handed Wednesday from Waddell Nursing and Rehab administrators.
The entire letter is just a paragraph long…short and to the point.
The second sentence says Reeves was let go for “failure to appropriately and correctly report an incident or event that could adversely affect the rights and privileges and safety of our residents.”
But she says that's far from the truth
In fact, the care giver says she was the first to report naked photos were taken of residents.
She described the picture she saw of a female victim.
“She was not fully naked, she was half clothed and she was in the bathroom, using the bathroom,” Reeves explained.
Reeves says she and a co-worker wrote a note warning of the abuse and slid it under an administrator's door at Waddell.
She says neither one of them signed it, because they were worried it would come out they told.
Reeves says she was told by her bosses not signing it cost her the job.
However, she believes the termination letter was handed to her because she knew administrator, James Wooddell, was aware of the abuse.
”He lied about it and said he didn't know anything about it. When in fact, I knew that he did, because I left the letter there under the door,” Reeves said. “He was telling all of his staff, 'well if I’d only knew about this earlier I could have done something to stop it', well he did know.”
Now, the public knows of what police say happened inside the nursing home, but Reeves has one more message for our viewers and readers.
“There was employees that did try to stop it and the note was ignored.”
We spoke to administrator James Wooddell about Reeves claims, but he didn’t want to comment, because he says they don’t talk about former employees.
