Appalachian Power upgrades electrical system for Dublin customers

»  Comments | Post a Comment

After spending eight hours without electricity, the lights are back on for hundreds of Appalachian Power customers.

APCo crews spent Wednesday along Route 100 in Dublin, replacing electrical transformers.

"It will provide for more reliability when there is high demand and by that I mean that on very hot days, very cold days you might not have those blinks that could occur," said Appalachian Power Spokesman John Shepelwich.

He says the Dublin area where the upgrades took place includes about 400 customers.

Shepelwich says those customers have been on the same circuit for more than 20 years.

He says new houses and businesses have been built, which has put pressure on the system.

Unfortunately, sometimes, the circuit couldn't handle that increase, but Shepelwich today's upgrades will make a big difference.

"We will be able to provide for new industry that may want to move into the industrial park here," said Shepelwich.

Shepelwich says the upgrades come at no extra cost to customers.

He says it's included in the company's budget.
