The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant and searched an Arrington residence last month in connection with the serious wounding of a 12-year-old cat with an arrow.
Michele Mays, of Arrington, said in an e-mail to the Nelson County Times that her cat, Bernadette, was found wounded outside her home in late October and that the veterinarian determined she had been shot with “a practice-type arrow.”
On Nov. 5, deputies searched the residence at 29 Dave’s Place in Arrington looking for similar arrows but found nothing.
“We don’t know who did it,” Nelson County Sheriff David Brooks said. “Right now we’re at a dead end.”
In an e-mail, Mays declined to comment on the situation and has not returned phone calls to the newspaper.
Mays said that Bernadette required surgery for her injuries but is recovering.
“Miraculously the arrow missed her spine and her organs,” Mays wrote in an e-mail. “This cat is my best friend.”
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office asked that anyone with information call (434) 263-7050 or the tip line at (877) 570-8477.
