Southeast Roanoke got a new present in time for the holidays.
The Roanoke Community Garden Association dedicated the Frank Roupas Community Garden on 14th Street on Sunday afternoon.
It will be a place for the community to grow food and serve about 50 people.
The landowner has owned the property since he was 19 years old after he took some family advice.
"Granddaddy said buy some land and help the people. So that's what I did. I bought this land 50 years ago,and I'm glad it could be used for something good like this," said Frank Roupas.
The land is being leased out for just $1 a year.
Volunteers say community gardens are also underway in Hurt Park and in Vinton.
