The weekend's big snow storm made it difficult for many to get last minute holiday shopping done. It also slowed down those trying to get gifts out to loved ones. The U.S. Postal Service was set back a few days with all the wintery weather. Monday, mail carriers hit the streets with double their normal work load.
The Postal Service also wants customers to know how they can help make sure the mail gets back up and running smoothly. "It's real important for customers to have the path to the mail box as clear as possible, free of ice and snow", said John Smalley.
Smalley has been a mail carrier for 12 years, 7 of them in Michigan, so he is used to the snowy weather. He knew the challenges he and others faced today. "It's twice the volume, but we have the same number of stops and it just take a little longer. Takes alot more energy to get through the snow", said Smalley.
A representative for the Postal Service tells WSLS, they hope to be caught up with the deliveries by Tuesday. They also say, if you are living in an area that is still hard for them to reach, please be patient.
