As part of National Engineers Week, members of Hughes Associates Architects visited Monterey Elementary School in Roanoke to give students a hands-on lesson.
Civil Engineers Mark Ayles and Mike Woolwine got the children involved in a unique competition.
"Well, the competition is about to set kids to think and to try to solve the problem. It's hard to set a ping pong ball to go down a fishing line, so to get them to think and then to learn a little bit about how weights affect the ping pong ball going down the line and how friction affects it," Woolwine told us.
The company hopes Wednesday's presentation will inspire students who dream of becoming an engineer one day.
