Members of the Bland Fire and Rescue Departments are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Justin Dunn was killed early Sunday morning off Railroad Trail just outside of Bastian.
There are snapped trees and pieces of debris left where Dunn ran off the left side of the road.
Neighbors say there was snow on the ground Sunday morning, and our meteorologists say it was most likely snowing when the accident happened. Police have not said whether the accident was weather related, or if Dunn was responding to a call. They have confirmed Dunn was not wearing his seatbelt.
Dunn was a third generation firefighter and a member of the rescue squad.
Dozens of people have posted comments about him online on the website Firefighter Nation.
One person writes, "Bland County has lost a highly trained firefighter, a respected young man, and no doubt he would have been a strong leader in the community. It was a privilege to know him, and I will never forget his dedication to preventing loss of property and life in Bland County."
Monday, fellow firefighters held back tears as they set up this memorial to say goodbye to one of their closest members.
They may not have many answers about what caused the crash that killed Justin Dunn, but there's no question what he meant to the community.
