2 charged with murder in death of Covington 2-year-old

A 10 On Your Side update to the investigation of the death of a child in Covington last year. Covington Police say they've charged a man and woman with murder, in connection with the death of a 2-year-old back in January of 2008.

Investigators say on Sunday, January 20, 2008, Covington emergency dispatch received a call around 5:30 p.m., asking for help for a 2-year-old girl who was unresponsive.

Covington Rescue Squad members took the child, now identified as Lakin Brown, to Alleghany Regional Hospital. Doctors say the child died.

Covington Police say an Alleghany County grand jury indicted Jeffrey Ailstock and Katrina Hyler on felony homicide, as well as family abuse and neglect of children charges.

Both Ailstock and Hyler are being held at the Alleghany Regional Jail.
