»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Virginia Department of Transportation will hold a public hearing to discuss upcoming improvements to a 950-foot section of Virginia Avenue (Route 220) at the Dyer Street (Route 1210) intersection in Henry County.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety by constructing a 665-foot section of concrete median and installing 125 feet of curb and gutter on Route 220. The concrete median will promote a right-in- and right-out traffic movement to the businesses adjacent to the Dyer Street and Virginia Avenue intersection.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Stanleytown Elementary School, located at 74 Edgewood Drive in Stanleytown.

The public hearing will be held in an informal “open house” style, and no formal presentation will be made. VDOT representatives will be present to discuss the project and answer questions.

Public comments about the project must be received on or before Feb. 1. Oral comments about the project may be received at the public hearing. Written comments may be submitted at the meeting or by mail to Lisa Hughes, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 309 Weeping Willow Lane, Bassett, Va. 24155. E-mail comments can be sent to saleminfo@VDOT.virginia.gov. Please reference “Virginia Avenue Improvements - Henry County” in the subject heading.

Anyone requiring special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting may contact VDOT’s Civil Rights Division at (540) 387-5320. TDD users can call 711.
