VDOT warns Lynchburg area drivers about ice

VDOT's warning to drivers in the Lynchburg area about slick roads Thursday morning:

Motorists are urged to remain alert and use caution should travel be necessary early this morning. Road conditions have improved; however, icy spots and black ice are still possible in some areas.

Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews have been out overnight addressing road problems, including downed limbs and trees, in most of the Lynchburg District. The district includes the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Cumberland, Halifax, Nelson, Pittsylvania and Prince Edward in the south-central portion of the state.

Motorists should be particularly careful on bridges, overpasses, turn lanes, ramps and intersections, as well as roads at higher elevations. In the northern part of the district, routes 6, 56, 60, 151, 250 and 664 in Nelson County and Route 60 in Amherst County reportedly have of some ice and caution is urged. Abrasives and chemicals have been applied, as needed, on some of the worst spots left from the Tuesday-Wednesday winter weather.
