MOUNT VERNON, Va. (AP) - You don't have to wait until the sun goes down to enjoy Independence Day fireworks in the Washington area this year.
For the first time, Mount Vernon will hold a display of colored smoke fireworks over the Potomac River on Saturday.
The display scheduled for 12:45 p.m. is part of a full day of July 4th celebrations at the historic home of George Washington. The day also includes an 11 a.m. naturalization ceremony for more than 100 people.
