(AP) - NORFOLK -- An Airbus A330 jet carrying 265 people from Northern Ireland to Florida made a safe emergency landing in Norfolk after the pilot detected vibrations in one of the aircraft's engines and turned it off.

Wayne Shank of the Norfolk Airport Authority says the pilot radioed the airport from about 60 miles over the Atlantic on Friday afternoon and reported the vibration. He decided to shut it down and land in Norfolk.

With emergency crews on hand, the pilot safely landed at Norfolk International Airport at about 2:30 p.m. Shank called the landing routine.

The Thomas Cook Airlines charter originated in Belfast and was en route to Orlando. Shank said the carrier was sending an aircraft from Orlando to pick up the passengers so they can continue their travels.
