Madison Heights' company's hydrogen fuel system can save you money

Workers at S and k HHO Fuel Systems in Madison Heights are busy making processors for their new and improved hydrogen fuel system.

"This type of product needs to go into market. If it doesn't, we're just going to use the Earth's resources up,” said owner Keith Wagner.

Wagner says his fuel system could drastically change how much gas we use.

"On the average our systems save between 20 and 25 percent on fuel mileage,” said Wagner.

His setup converts your car or truck into a hydrogen-gas hybrid.

"It actually pulls the hydrogen out of water, turns it into a gas,” said Wagner.

That gas is then carried through these hoses to your engine. The hydrogen helps your gas burn cleaner, which Wagner says gives you better gas mileage and cleaner emissions.

So how much does one of these systems cost? Wagner says with parts and installation, it's about 650 for a car and 800 for an SUV.

"You probably going to save six-hundred dollars a year for the average driver and the system actually pays for itself for the average driver in it's first year,” said Wagner.

He says since he put the system in his van ... his gas mileage has jumped from 21 to 29 miles-per-gallon. Wagner believes this technology could be a huge boost to the economy once people realize the savings.

"Hydrogen could save this economy, just the price of driving back and forth to work. It's a whole new market that can create jobs,” said Wagner.

He's in negotiations with a European company that wants to buy 32,000 units. Wagner says they want to improve air quality in London for the 2012 Olympics. He hopes local drivers will make the investment to make southwest Virginia a little greener for everyone.
