Man hurt in Bedford wreck

»  Comments | Post a Comment

A Thaxton man had to be flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Sunday afternoon after he crossed both sides of the U.S. 460 bypass in Bedford and struck a tree.

Bedford City Police Sgt. Brian McAlexander said Stig Engblom, 55, of Thaxton, was headed east on the bypass just inside the eastern city limits near the Main Street interchange before the wreck. McAlexander said Engblom’s passenger reported that he had a seizure.

Engblom’s minivan went off the right side of the road, then back over the eastbound lanes, the median, westbound lanes and up an embankment before striking a tree, McAlexander said. Police were called at 3:12 p.m.

He said Engblom had substantial facial injuries, including what appeared to be multiple broken bones, and possibly a broken arm.

Engblom was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital by a Carilion Clinic Life-Guard helicopter.

He was listed in fair condition Sunday night.
