Danville Police Chief Philip Broadfoot has said from the very first news conference, he had proof "Killer" the 12 pound dachsund was aggressive.
"The dachsund kept jumping up, trying to bite my ankle and leg.", says Paulette Dean.
Enter humane society director Paulette Dean, who claims she encountered "Killer" in the neighborhood years before.
What took so long? That's what we're hearing from many of you on WSLS.com.
Tchildress6339 writes, "It's inconceivable the director of the humane society would ignore this type of behavior. We all know it took this long for her to come up with a scenario that matches the police version."
Another viewer, Judith adds, "Ms. Dean from the humane society should have called animal control if she thought there was any threat. It is discouraging that she would stand up in an oblique defense of the tragic incident. One wonders how she can be representing the SPCA? SHAME ON HER."
When it comes to our coverage of the latest news conference with Dean, Don Davis from Wytheville has this to say,
"The news you've been putting on lately seems to mitigate the shooting. Have these experts on and you know. It just seems likes it's trying to be a little more dismissive than it should be.", says Davis.
Dean doesn't dismiss what happened, calling the shooting unjustifiable.
"Let's stop the threats, let's stop the horrible things that are going around about the department, the humane society, the dog.", says Dean.
If the comments we're getting are any indication, that's much easier said than done.
