From home to hiking members of Boy Scout Troop 50 out of Roanoke are spending some of their summer days helping their troop celebrate a milestone.
For the 50th anniversary the scouts are hiking 56 miles from Roanoke to Camp Ottari in Pulaski County.
It hasn't been done since 1969.
We caught up with the troops as they crossed a swinging bridge over the Little River on Indian Valley Road in Montgomery County.
They say the best part has been spending time with friends and the worst part is a tie between ticks and blisters.
Bugs and sores aside, troop members say they don't mind risking a little pain for a big gain.
"It makes me feel really good because not many people have done this and when I grow up I can say I'm one of the few people that have," said 13 year-old Ian Oehring.
The scouts are expected to arrive at Camp Ottari in Pulaski County this afternoon.
They will celebrate the five day hike with root beer floats.
