Patrick calls it payback. It was my attempt at paying him back for unexpectedly having to step in and do the news last week when I was unable to. When I was first asked to do it, I thought, why not. There was no way, I thought, I could do anything worse than passing out while on the air as I did the week before. (Note: Other than the obvious embarrassment, I am doing ok and the baby is just great—11 more weeks to go!!)
After thinking about it overnight… I got a bit nervous.. but there was no time or tolerance for that. After all, my co-anchor didn’t have much time to prepare for his first ever solo news and weather cast!! Truth be told, Patrick did the tough job this week, he did the actual forecasting. I just had to make some sense of it and present it.
I never thought I’d be so nervous. With my voice cracking and hands shaking, I thought.. thank goodness the weather looks great for the next few days… Clear, cool and hey it was the first day of spring. Who could fault me for delivering a forecast like that? I made it through the longest three minutes ever and better yet, I did it and stayed standing!!!
Will I ever do weather again? No, I think I’ll stick to news but it was fun… fear and all… and I have even more respect for my co-worker than ever before. I think we make a good team… we can pinch hit for each other on the anchor desk and at the weather wall when needed, although I think we both secretly hope we won’t have to again.
Happy Spring and TGIF.
