Snow equals money for some businesses, delays profits for others

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Before you woke up, plowing companies were already out clearing and shoveling all the slush mother nature dropped over the weekend.

Randy Thompson with Valley Landscaping says the snow was a pleasant surprise.

"Last year we didn't get any accumulation at all just maybe a couple of inches. This really hit us by surprise. I thought we were done with snow, but it didn't turn out that way."

Aside from the long hours and hard work plowing companies like Valley Landscaping say the snow is an added bonus to their profits.

"Oh yes, it's nice," said Thompson. "We can't complain. We've had a lot of offers for contracts just this morning."

It's was different story at the Duncan Jeep Pontiac GMC car dealership this morning.

Before offers started coming in they had to get the snow out of the way and off the cars.

"It's been treacherous," said Tommy Blankenship. "It's been a lot of work and everybody is wet and cold, but we gotta get it done so everybody can see the cars that we got."

Snow also caused problems for cars *on the road.*

Since 1 p.m. Sunday, state police reported a total of 77 accidents in Wythe, Carroll and Pulaski counties *all* weather related.
