The Virginia Department of Transportation will be removing a large boulder on a slope along Route 220 between Clifton Forge and Iron Gate in Alleghany County. All lanes on Route 220 in this location will be closed on Sunday, March 15 from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Drivers of large trucks and other motorists traveling between Roanoke and Clifton Forge should use Interstate 81 and Interstate 64 as detours around this area.
Local motorists traveling between I-64 at Clifton Forge and I-81 can use exit I-64 at exit 21, which is in the Low Moor area. At the interchange use Route 696 (Selma Low Moor Road to Route 616 (Rich Patch Road) to Route 621 (Roaring Run Road) to Route 615 (Craig Creek Road) to Route 220.
